(NaturalNews) The 2011 D-Feat Breast Cancer Campaign, an initiative of the Vitamin D Council, is now in full force as the group works to raise awareness about natural ways in which to prevent breast cancer. One of the primary ways to prevent breast cancer is to maintain high levels of vitamin D, particularly through skin exposure to natural sunlight. D-Feat promotes this message through a campaign involving beauty and tanning salons that distribute literature and raise donations -- and you can help by recruiting your local salon to support the campaign.

Most everyone is aware of the popular Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a campaign that raises awareness about breast cancer, but that does nothing at all to prevent it right now. This failure, of course, is a result of the group's belief that diet, exercise, and sun exposure play virtually no role in breast cancer prevention. In fact, a quick glimpse at the Susan G. Komen "Risk Factors Table" reveals what the group actually believes concerning breast cancer risk -- mainly that it is inherited or genetic, and that there is little women can do to prevent it (http://ww5.komen.org/BreastCancer/BreastCancerRiskFactorsTable.html).

Truth be told, diet and exercise actually play a very significant role in helping to prevent breast cancer, as does getting enough vitamin D from sun exposure, tanning, or supplementation. Unlike Susan G. Komen, D-Feat understands the importance of vitamin D in preventing breast cancer, and seeks to educate women everywhere about it to the end that many of them will avoid ever developing the disease in the first place.

"This is a great way to promote the benefits of moderate UV light exposure," says Roger Holmes, president of the 22-store Leawood, Kan.-based Celsius Tannery chain, concerning the D-Feat salon campaign. "D-Feat Breast Cancer engages customers, creates goodwill in the community and raises money for the good of the industry."

All money raised by D-Feat is used to fund further research into the power of vitamin D to prevent breast cancer, as well as to fight anti-sun campaigns that scare people from out of exposing themselves to the sun, which is the primary source of natural vitamin D. Such "anti-UV propaganda" campaigns are largely responsible for the widespread vitamin D deficiency epidemic from which much of the world now suffers, and one that has resulted in all sorts of related disease epidemics (http://www.naturalnews.com/vitamin_D_deficiency.html).
