A GMO Whistle Blower Reveals
In November, 2009, Organic Consumer Association (OCA) interviewed Agro-ecologist Don Lotter, Ph.D, about his paper published in the 2009 edition of the International Journal of Sociology of Agriculture and Food. Despite knowing how this paper might affect his career as a university researcher and professor, Lotter revealed more than the flawed scientific background of Bio-Technology arrogance. He also revealed a smoking gun that would ruin our health.
Lotter stated: "The promoter gene used in genetically engineered crops, the cauliflower mosaic virus, is a powerful promoter of inter-species gene exchange. Scientists thought it would be denatured in our digestive system, but it`s not. It has been shown to promote the transfer of transgenes from GM foods to the bacteria within our digestive system, which are responsible for 80% of our immune system function " (Emphasis added)

So far, GMO labeling has been avoided in North America. And according to Barbara Peterson of Farm Wars, cross contamination is even occurring with organic foods. Barbara points out in her article "USDA National Organics Program - Testing for GMOs NOT Required" that this is the stated position of the USDA on GMOs.
USDA policy also states organic certification is based on how the produce is grown, and there is no guarantee of being free from GMOs. In other words, as long as they are grown without genetic engineering, they are approved as organic. But there is no inspection for GMO contamination by wind or pollination carried from GMO farms in the area.
She also points out that even if the USDA did inspect, there is no standard of how much contamination would be tolerated. Zero tolerance is unlikely. So who would decide how much is safe? This blows out the co-existence plan as unworkable even if it were implemented. That proposal was ignored as GE alfalfa has been given the USDA green light for anywhere and everywhere.
But what is to be expected with the USDA and FDA occupied and owned by Monsanto? Former Monsanto execs are in key USDA and FDA positions. And they didn't sneak through the corporate/government revolving door. They were appointed by White House and approved by Congress.
Let`s not forget the GMO fed animal testing that has demonstrated lower fertility and problems with what offspring could be produced. Meanwhile, plants and farm animals are dying from the contamination created by Monsanto`s Roundup pesticide, which is sprayed with abundance on the GM plants protected against it.
More needs to be done to stop the GMO juggernaut that threatens our health now as well as endangering the survival of future generations.
