(NaturalNews) Continuing our article series on new raw foods, today we take a look at an exciting new raw, sprouted protein product from Sprout Living (www.SproutLiving.com). It's called Sproutein, and it's a (relatively) high-protein powder made almost entirely from freeze-dried sprouts.

The raw protein supplement market is simply exploding with consumer demand. As people learn about the benefits of plant-based proteins and raw foods, they're increasingly looking for raw, plant-based protein products that provide the nutrients they need to stay healthy and fit.

At the Raw Spirit Fest, I was handed the very first sample of this product, along with a hot-off-the-press label that I had to stick on it myself! Made from freshly freeze-dried sprout powders (see below), this product is raw, nutrient dense and absolutely packed with phytonutrients that nourish the body and eliminate degenerative disease (like cancer or heart disease). Most protein products are one dimensional and don't provide many phytonutrients. That's fine if you're adding your own superfoods to your protein smoothies, but some people want a protein source that's rich in sprout nutrients. That's where Sproutein fits the bill. The drawbacks are that it's only about 1/3rd protein and it's a bit on the gritty side (13g of fiber vs. 11g of protein per serving). The taste is also definitely not for beginners looking for a sweet-tasting protein. This is more for hard-core folks looking for very high nutrient density in a protein powder. I really enjoyed it in my smoothies, but then again I'm the kind of guy that drinks marine phytoplankton in my water.
