We have good news to report on the Senate bill S.1082 that we've been covering all week. The grassroots efforts of citizens and advocates in the health freedom movement are making a huge impact on this legislative effort. We've already managed to delay the voting on the bill from early this week to next week (Monday looks likely), and as Byron Richards reports here, the Senate voted 63-28 to accept the Dorgan amendment which allows prescription drugs to be imported from other countries -- a move that would break Big Pharma's monopoly over the current U.S. drug market and cost the industry billions of dollars in racketeering profits.
President Bush, not surprisingly, threatened to veto the bill if it allowed consumers, cities and states to purchase prescription drugs on the free market. (The Bush Administration has consistently acted to protect Big Pharma profits, even at the expense of bankrupting Americans.) And many Big-Pharma-controlled Senators are against this amendment, claiming "safety concerns" over imported drugs. The truth, however, is that prescription drugs are dangerous no matter what country they come from! At the same time, we wish to break Big Pharma's monopoly over the U.S. medication market and allow consumers, cities, states and corporations to have access to lower priced medications from outside the U.S., if they so choose.
This amendment to the bill would never have been considered if it wasn't for the emails, letters and phone calls from health freedom citizens who are hammering their lawmakers over S1082. Thank you for the action you've taken already. You've done a great job! But this war isn't over yet.

The amendments that need your support are the Grassley Amendments, proposed by Sen. Charles Grassley, a long-time critic of the FDA and a lawmaker who wants to demand new accountability from the FDA over drug safety. There are eleven amendments proposed by Sen. Grassley, and the health freedom community is calling for your support in helping us get those amendments included in the bill.
ACTION ITEM: If you are an American citizens, please call your Senator's office right now and tell them you support the "Grassley Amendments" to S.1082, which is generally referred to as the FDA drug safety bill. Be sure to mention you support a free market on prescription drugs so that Americans can buy them from anywhere they want, and you support protecting nutritional supplements and DSHEA.
