Guns save the day after stabbing spree at gun-free California college leaves 5 injured

by J. D. Heyes

(NaturalNews) In another stellar example of just how foolish (and hypocritical) gun-free zones are, firearms were used, once more, to end violence on a U.S. college campus.

As reported by Fox News and several other media, a male suspect stabbed five people on the campus of the University of California, Merced, Wednesday morning before police officers (with guns) showed up to shoot and kill him.

Reports said that two of the five victims were transported to local hospitals via helicopter, indicating the seriousness of their injuries. Three other victims were treated locally, according to university spokeswoman Lorena Anderson. School officials and police were not releasing information about the suspect at the time this report was filed.

According to NBC News, victims of the attacker included a co-worker of Jacob Rodriguez, who was painting a wall across from the classroom where the incident began.

"We thought it was a fight going on and we heard people screaming," he said. "My co-worker opened the door to see if there was a fight going on and if they needed help. He said the teacher looked at him and said 'no,' and then the guy ran out and attacked my co-worker."

The suspect was reportedly brandishing a kitchen knife which witnesses said appeared to be about nine inches long.

Ban 'assault knives'!

"He attacked my co-worker and then he came towards me and I grabbed a ladder and put a ladder between me and the guy and he ran off downstairs," he told NBC News.

Besides being a gun-free zone, University of California, Merced, is also a knife-free zone, per the school's rules (702.20):

Possession, use, storage, or manufacture of firearms, weapons and destructive devices are prohibited. Examples of prohibited weapons include but are not limited to stun guns, tasers, retractable bladed knives, knives with a fixed blade over 2.5 inches, nunchucks, sling shots, bows and arrows (except as permitted for departmental demonstrations or classes), air guns (paint, BB, etc), or any device which closely resembles a firearm. Any item or implement used aggressively or for violent purposes may be deemed a weapon. Mace and pepper spray may not be misused.

So, with the rules so clearly enunciated for all students to access, how in the world did one deranged male get a hold of one? How in the world did it get on campus? Weren't "the rules" supposed to prohibit knives? How is it possible that the rules could have been ignored?

You know who's responsible for Wednesday's carnage? Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown and every state legislator who voted for a measure he signed recently banning guns from college campuses.

So, in response to previous university-related violence, Brown decides the best way to deal with it is to make sure that students are about as helpless as they can possibly be. Is that brilliant or what?

You can bet Obama won't say a thing

It's easy to understand, though, why today's Democrat Party in general, but "progressive" Left-wing extremist politicians in specific, like gun control; it gives them more control. A disarmed population is much more dependent on government for "protection," though it is clear as a bell that government (i.e. police) cannot be everywhere at once and cannot prevent people who want to do bad things from actually doing them.

After the Merced incident, another thing is certain – and this is how you can be certain that President Obama politicizes this kind of violence for personal gain – because the attacker was armed with a knife and not a gun, Obama will remain silent. We won't hear him stand at a lectern in the White House Rose Garden chastising Congress to pass "new, tougher knife control laws."

Oh, and one other thing we won't hear our Lefty president say: that Americans, no matter where they are, should have the right to protect and defend themselves, as the Second Amendment meant for them to be able to do.
