Help support national billboard campaign to warn public about dangers of fluoride

by Jonathan Benson, staff writer

(NaturalNews) Leading the charge to protect America's children against fluoride damage, the Fluoride Action Network (FAN) has launched a nationwide billboard campaign to inform parents, legislators, and health authorities about the need to immediately stop artificially fluoridating public water.

More than 270 million Americans are exposed to fluoride through the tap for the stated purpose of preventing tooth decay, but the alleged science behind this longtime claim has been disproven. The latest scientific research shows that fluoride contributes to lowered IQ, developmental delays in children, brain damage, and more.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) even admits that fluoride is a chemical "with substantial evidence of developmental neurotoxicity," and yet most major metropolitan areas throughout the country inject it into their water supplies at the behest of other government agencies that claim it's safe.

So far, FAN's fluoride awareness billboards have been put up in Fircrest and Tacoma, Washington, with more on the way in the coming weeks and months. The goal is to raise awareness about the toxic nature of fluoride, and to direct the public's attention to FAN's science-based website for more information.

"Forty-four human studies now show fluoride reduces IQ; 17 at levels the U.S. EPA claims are safe," explains FAN in a recent press release. "Over 100 animal studies show fluoride can directly damage the brain; with another 30 animal studies showing fluoride impairs learning or memory - including four published in 2014."

If fluoride works at all, it's only topically; ingesting it provides no benefits and only causes harm

A common misperception is that ingesting fluoride somehow provides the same oral health benefits as applying it topically. But this simply isn't the case as many fluoride promoters now admit, hence the reason why many are now pushing for water utilities to abandon this outmoded practice.

"Unfortunately, fluoridation promotion is not science-based but is politically motivated," says Paul Connett, Ph.D., FAN Executive Director and co-authors of The Case Against Fluoride.

"While it's important to avoid fluoridated water especially for infants, it's imperative that parents contact legislators and tell them to stop adding unnecessary fluoride chemicals into the public's water supply."

Science shows fluoride ingestion leads to autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, and cognitive impairment

Even if fluoride did benefit oral health through ingestion, the irreversible damage it causes to the central nervous system and brain, particularly in children, is simply unjustifiable. A recent study published in the peer-reviewed journal Environmental Health, for instance, found that each 1 percent increase in artificial fluoridation prevalence results in an additional 67,000 to 131,000 ADHD diagnoses.

A U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports also found that fluoride exposure has led to millions of children developing dental fluorosis, a form of tooth damage in which teeth become mottled and discolored. As many as 41 percent of teens, admits the agency, now suffer from dental fluorosis as a result of artificial water fluoridation.

"If our government agencies (HHS, CDC, FDA and EPA), professional bodies (ADA, AMA, APHA, etc.) and the media were to do a professional job on this issue, the continuation of fluoridation would be unthinkable," adds Connett. "Sadly, they are not. And the public is not being informed of the dangers posed by fluoridation. So FAN must do the job for them."
