Mainstream media says it's okay when newscasters repeatedly lie; must be judged on 'different standard'

by Jonathan Benson, staff writer

(NaturalNews) With one of their own on the chopping block for lying to the public, mainstream media pundits Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough, hosts of MSNBC's Morning Joe program, have suddenly become devout Bible scholars. The duo recently came out in defense of shamed NBC News anchor Brian Williams, claiming that he should be held to a "different standard" from everyone else, presumably because of his celebrity status.

According to CNS News, Brzezinski believes that Williams "is one of the few people on the face of the earth who is held to a different standard" from everyone else. Scarborough, her colleague, agrees, having added that everyone makes "bad mistakes" and that Williams' career shouldn't be marked by "one or two or three mistakes."

"I'm just hopeful -- because I can't be objective here -- I'm hopeful that when all of the madness on Twitter, and all of the madness online, and all of the madness that's going on right now -- the investigations that need to be going on, we're not saying they don't need to be going on," stated Scarborough.

"That when the fury dies down, and when we get through the storm and the decision is made to judge what Brian Williams' future should be -- that that decision will be based on the entirety of his career, and not on one or two or three mistakes."

Since Williams is a personal friend of the two co-hosts, they've been more than forgiving concerning his fairy tale telling, which includes claims that he rode on a helicopter that was shot down in Iraq. As it turns out, he was riding on a completely different helicopter, and he has had a difficult time making up excuses as to why he lied about this to the public.

News anchors use Bible manipulation to justify lies of celebrity news anchors, politicians

Somehow, though, we're all just supposed to forget about Williams' fabrications and brush it all under the rug because none of us is without sin -- yes, Scarborough actually pulled a manipulation card from the mega-church deck when he began rambling off Bible verses to guilt the public into giving Williams a free pass concerning the scandal.

"I think we should all step back and ask whether we are so perfect that we want to be the ones to cast that first stone," stated Scarborough from his high horse. "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. I'm in no position to cast the first stone."

Whether that last statement is an admission of guilt or not, what Scarborough is suggesting here about not throwing the first stone is essentially how Hillary Clinton was treated after it became public knowledge that she lied about being shot at in Bosnia. During her 2008 run for president, Clinton claimed that she and her staff had dodged sniper fire on an airport landing strip in the embattled country, which later turned out to be a lie.

Unlike Williams, Clinton never even apologized for this complete falsification -- the media just ignored it and it all went away. Somehow this seems a lot less like not throwing stones and a lot more like not keeping and serving justice, which the Bible condemns.

"Is it really more important that Brian Williams has a certain type of character and honesty than a presidential candidate or secretary of state?" asked Sharyl Attkisson, a former CBS News reporter who was involved in reporting on Clinton at the time.

"You kind of wonder... how they got away for so long with telling the story and how they thought that they would get away with it without somebody coming to them, family members and so on, saying that didn't happen."
