Healthier Coffee - 5 ways to make java the ultimate experience

by Derek Henry

(NaturalNews) One of the first things we think about when engaging in our morning routine is securing our cup of coffee. Without it, the world is a bit dimmer, but once it is in our hot hands, the world is full of sunshine and rainbows. It seems that little can go wrong with our cup of coffee, but the truth is there are many things that can be improved upon to ensure that consistent coffee consumption does not adversely affect our health.

Go organic

Coffee is one of the most heavily treated crops, with conventional farmers applying up to 250 pounds of chemical fertilizers per acre. When you ingest your coffee, you take in pesticide residues, which contribute to many health problems, including cancer and miscarriages in pregnant women.

Over time, your 1-3 cup a day coffee habit slowly accumulates unnecessary toxins and eventually leads to a breakdown in your health. This is why it is very important to go organic and pay the premium in order to make it a much more healthier experience.

Skip the conventional dairy

A very common addition to coffee is conventional milk. It may seem innocent to have that splash of dairy every day in your coffee, but do you really want to consume bovine growth hormones, antibiotics, GMO's, and pesticides?

Make your coffee a much healthier experience by skipping the conventional dairy, and opting for organic raw milk or cream instead. That, or consider a nut or seed milk (soaked, when appropriate) and avoid the complications dairy can create altogether.

Be done with the refined sugar

We know refined sugar is not healthy for us, but sometimes we make exceptions for our morning coffee ritual. However, we need to consider that sugar is often GMO and is a nightmare for those with gastrointestinal and liver issues.

Choose a less refined, more mineralized, and low-glycemic sweetener like coconut sugar, and add cinnamon to temper the blood sugar spikes.

Offset the acidity

One of the main concerns with coffee is the level of acidity. This may not be as much of a problem if our diet was largely alkaline, but a diet high in grains and animal protein have made that extremely difficult to obtain.

To offset this acidity use spring water or another source of pure, alkaline water, to raise the pH of your brew. Consider adding other vitamin and mineral rich components that help alkalize the body such as grass fed butter and maca.

Help neutralize the negative effects of caffeine

Caffeine is the major component most of us are in love with when it comes to the coffee experience. Unfortunately, it artificially stimulates our adrenals and over time, contributes to adrenal fatigue. The irony is that caffeine is often used for energy and over the short term it often works, but in the end it leaves you chronically tired and needing to drink more and more to get the same effect, and sometime none at all.

However, you can do something to help offset the adrenal depletion that comes with coffee without sacrificing your coffee buzz. Using adaptogenic herbs, which help restore adrenal balance, can help reduce the side effects of adrenal depletion that often come with regular caffeine intake. Consider putting a small amount of reishi or other medicinal mushrooms into your coffee to achieve a healthier coffee experience. If you've been doing coffee wrong, check out the first source below to get those adrenal glands back in shape.
