Hospitals and nursing homes: places of health and healing?

by Jay Ricci

(NaturalNews) Dear reader, you may be familiar with the "Until Every Child Is Well" song from the commercials of a prominent Boston hospital. Just in case you aren't, for review purposes, here is a portion of the song:

I wanna give you a world that's free from struggle;
Wanna build you a world where you can spread your wings;
Where every smile is endless, every future bright;
Until every wish is granted;
Until every child is well..."

The lyrics are touching, and it is indeed admirable for a hospital to aim for the goal of seeing that "every child is well." I'm sure that every hospital would openly share this sentiment; all hospitals should be places of health and healing. However, what was discovered on a random trip to two of Boston's major hospitals will reveal the sad truth that -- what hospitals should be is not always what they are.

What is really being served there?

Generally, hospitals do a lot of good; in the area of nutritious food, however, these hospitals have room for improvement. They offer packaged cereals and cakes as well as a variety of muffins for breakfast. These foods are loaded with toxic preservatives, GMOs (unless organic), refined white (table) salt and refined white sugar which should not be consumed. These hospitals also had at least four shelves of dairy products (milk, yogurt etc). The cafeterias also had only two small spaces for fruit and vegetables, but none of them were labeled as organic. For lunch and dinner, these cafeterias also had plenty of cooked (dead) foods devoid of their life-sustaining enzymes. For snacks, they offered packaged chips; for beverages, they had cow milk, tea containing toxic caffeine and processed, sugar-laden sodas and bottled "fruit" juices.

In addition to visiting these hospitals, as a minister I've also visited several nursing homes and have seen the dead, packaged and processed GMO foods fed to our dear seniors in residence there. Space will not permit me to go into further detail about the other nutritional atrocities I've discovered at these "healthcare" facilities. I was also able to contact the person who oversees the food and nutrition services for the healthcare facilities in my home city. He said, "We provide a room service style service that incorporates our dietary staff and chief clinical dieticians team to ensure that our patients get a healthy meal as per state and local guidelines, doctors orders and diet restrictions. Our call center attendants and chefs are trained and follow strict guideline for all our patients on providing them with the healthy meals." Perhaps the word "healthy" has been redefined today, because the dead foods that I observed being given to these seniors to eat looked anything but healthy.

Unhealthy healthcare

It is safe to conclude that most hospitals and nursing homes in our nation provide dead, processed foods to hospital patients and nursing home residents. These "foods" hinder the body's ability to prevent and recover from illnesses and can potentially contribute to the formation of illness! Our bodies are living organisms, comprised of living cells that were designed to be nourished predominantly with living (raw), unprocessed, organic (non-GMO) plant-sourced foods.

If you or someone you know have a loved one in a hospital or nursing home, get informed and involved concerning the food given to them. Be proactive as best as you can to ensure that they are not being served food that will harm their health. In order to see positive change, I would advise you to contact your local hospital or nursing home administration. The Healthy Food in Health Care initiative provides more information about this.
