3 powerful back to school snacks

by Derek Henry

(NaturalNews) With the kids back in school, lunch preparation begins in earnest. When short on ideas, we may have the tendency to do what is easiest and buy boxed food and snacks, which are typically more nutrient deficient than home prepared snacks. To give kids with the mental energy required for school, check out these homemade snack ideas.

Raw frozen granola

Granola seems like a "health" food, but the combination of sugar, nuts, wheat, and soy oil often make it very difficult to digest. In this granola recipe, many of those ingredients have been removed, and superfoods have been added, which make it a nice filling snack with a wide array of nutrients.

Ingredients

Dry

Wet (add to the previous)

Directions
  1. Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl.
  2. When well combined, spread mixture out in a deep freezer safe container about 2-3 inches thick, and place in freezer.

Coconut brownie recipe

This snack is quick and easy to make, and also delivers healthy fats, antioxidants, a good dose of magnesium, and a spectrum of minerals if you choose to add in goji berries.

Ingredients

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350F.
  2. Over low heat in saucepan, blend coconut oil and cacao powder. Remove from heat and let cool.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix eggs, sweetener, and vanilla. Blend into cocoa mixture.
  4. Stir in coconut flour until batter is smooth. Add hemp, cacao nibs, chocolate chips, or goji.
  5. Bake in a greased 88 baking pan for 30-35 minutes.
  6. Let cool and place in fridge or freezer until chilled.
  7. Toppings such as coconut flakes or chocolate frosting are optional.

Superfood power bites

Sometimes the kids need a snack that they can just pop into their mouths, feel satisfied, and enjoy some sustainable energy through its high quality nutrition. Fortunately, this snack does all of that by supplying them with EFA's, amino acids, B-Vitamins, enzymes, chlorophyll, and trace minerals.

Ingredients

Directions
  1. Put sunflower seeds, dates, spirulina, maca, and salt in food processor and process until they reach a sticky consistency. Scoop into another mixing bowl.
  2. Process brazil nuts and walnuts until fine but crumbly and add to mixing bowl with the above mix.
  3. Add hemp hearts and cacao nibs to mixing bowl and mix thoroughly. Mixture will be thick and stick so it will be easiest to combine with hands. Add bee pollen at the end.
  4. Roll into 1-2 inch balls. Store in an airtight container in fridge. Will keep for up to 2 weeks.
