Have the chills? Try vase breathing, part of a meditative technique shown to increase core body temperature

by Raw Michelle

(NaturalNews) As most health-conscious people are aware, healing the body without costly and potentially dangerous prescribed medications and treatments is possible. A change in both dietary lifestyle and mindset can put one on a path that reverses certain ailments, if not cures them completely. From skin conditions and obesity to cancers and diabetes, many people have realized that simply changing their previously unhealthy actions and thoughts drastically improved their overall health.

In addition to eating whole, fresh foods such as cruciferous vegetables and a variety of fruits, it's important to give credit to the power of the mind when it comes to healing. Many forms of meditation and relaxation techniques can ease symptoms and provide relief.

It's possible to control body temperature with meditation

For example, something called "vase breathing," a meditation technique referred to as g-tummo, involves focusing on increasing one's core temperature in an effort to bolster the immune system.(1)

So effective is this technique that scientists have published findings reinforcing the validity of it, citing nuns who were able to raise their core body temperature to the point of being able to dry the wet sheets that were wrapped around them in a -25 degree environment.(2,3)

How does vase breathing work and help heal?

G-tummo is a meditative technique that involves vase breathing in which one pictures pulling in clean water with each inhalation and then, releasing about 85 percent of air on the exhale which helps to create a vase-like shape in the lower abdomen.(1) This exhalation best allows for each subsequent inhalation to flow easier.(1)

The other aspect of the g-tummo technique is visualization of flames along the spinal cord.(2)

Both the breathing and visualization help increase the body's temperature, something that may be beneficial for people who experience cold sensations often such as those with Raynaud's syndrome.

In fact, even the Mayo Clinic is on board with alternative techniques for easing Raynaud's symptoms, one of which includes using imagery and deep breathing.(4)

However, when it comes to Raynaud's and most other health issues, every person responds differently to various techniques. Vase breathing can certainly be effective in raising body temperature, but so too is exercise and massage, which has also proven to be an effective way to boost body temperature.
