Government shutdown delayed treatment for 30-year-old mother with stage 4 cancer

(NaturalNews) Michelle Langbehn is a 30-year-old mother who was diagnosed with stage 4 sarcoma (a rare form of cancer), when her daughter was only eight weeks old. She was told she would only survive a year.
She stopped her chemotherapy because she was waiting to hear from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) about whether or not she would be accepted into a clinical trial for patients with sarcoma.
The government shutdown delayed her answer for almost a week, only to find out that she was not accepted into the NIH trial. She was outraged that the shutdown wasted valuable time that she could have used trying to get into another clinical trial. In the meantime, she discovered that she has a new sarcoma growth in her collarbone. Michelle is still hopeful and refuses to let her daughter grow up without a mother. She is attempting to get accepted in other trials.
Perhaps this let-down was a blessing in disguise. Michelle has already suffered through nine months of chemotherapy, several surgeries and two rounds of radiation. This clinical trial could have exposed her to more toxic chemotherapy and/or radiation, assaulting her immune system and weakening her organs.
