Obamacare 'navigators' can easily steal your identity

by J. D. Heyes

(NaturalNews) Are you ready for a wave of new bureaucracy that will create yet another army of empowered government workers who are guaranteed to abuse your privacy and trust? Well, you're about to get both, as Obamacare gets set for its official launch Oct. 1.

This new wave of government employees are called Obamacare "navigators," and they are going to be coming to your home soon to "educate" you about the new law and extract whatever information they can from you - information that will be entered into huge new databases. sums up this impending disaster thusly:

Similar to how the Transportation Security Administration attracts pedophiles with jobs providing easy access to children, Obamacare will attract identity thieves with jobs allowing them to go door-to-door to preach the "virtues" of Obamacare while extracting private information from Americans in their own homes.

Under Obamacare, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is implementing a "Navigator" program, which provides millions of dollars to non-profit groups nationwide to hire "Navigators" who will advise Americans on their Obamacare health "options" based on the sensitive information provided.

What kinds of "sensitive" information?

Identity thieves-turned-Obamacare Navigators

Your Social Security number, levels of income, employment history, of course your home address and other "PII" - Personally Identifiable Information. More than enough for an identity thief to access your credit and financial resources.

Congress hasn't been completely tone deaf on this one. In a Sept. 20 letter to the HHS, the House Committee on Energy and Commerce asked the federal health agency to address the panel's concerns over the "rushed implementation" of the Navigator program, including plans to "engage in enrollment activities that increase the likelihood of fraud or abuse, including door-to-door contacts" by some non-profits.

"The recipient of one of the largest Navigator grants explained in their application that they expected a substantial portion of their program to involve door-to-door contacts," the letter said. "Another described their work plan as involving 'door-to-door outreach to 10,000 households per week.'"

The letter also emphasized that government officials had "confidence" that Navigators would not go door-to-door to enroll Americans in Obamacare. Yet, that looks increasingly likely.

This confidence appears unfounded considering that identity thieves will likely be lured to the Navigator jobs, which allow easy access to sensitive information, pay an estimated $20 to $48 an hour and do not even require a background check. Identity thieves could also just pretend to be real, government-sanctioned Navigators, scamming Americans out of their private data.

Even if Navigators do not physically come to your home, the information they will gather will be more than enough to victimize you later.

And there are no hard-and-fast protections against such theft. Section 1411 of the Affordable Care Act establishes a $25,000 fine for any improper use of, or disclosure of, PII. But like gun-free zones, criminal ID thieves won't be deterred by a piece of paper. And, notes, the identity theft conviction rate is appallingly low - 1 in 1,000.

Remember, Obamacare is just about control

Last month, Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi expressed the same fears about the Navigator program.

"Because of time constraints, HHS [is] cutting back on the requirement to become a navigator, meaning they're not going to be doing background checks," she said in an interview with Fox News. "Now these navigators will have our consumers throughout the country's most personal and private information: tax return information, Social Security information.

"And our biggest fear, of course, is identity theft," she added.

Bondi also indicated that even those with prior identity theft convictions can still become navigators.

And they likely will.

Americans, by far, hate this law and want nothing to do with it. They don't understand it, are suspicious of it, and are worried that many of the promises made to get it passed are being violated. Nevertheless, the nation is being force-fed healthcare "reform" legislation that only the elites - who have been exempted from it - truly support. And why? Because it's all about control [].
