Obamacare exchange awards $375,000 grant to Planned Parenthood
by J. D. Heyes
(NaturalNews) Abortion may be offensive to you, against your religious beliefs or just plain wrong in your mind, but it doesn't matter what you think, because you're subsidizing it anyway, and you can thank your federal masters for that.
Already, taxpayers providing funding to Planned Parenthood, an organization which claims to be primarily about "women's health" but is more notorious for providing record numbers of abortions.
"Planned Parenthood has spent much of the last few years demanding that taxpayers add millions more to their coffers, citing their non-profit status and so-called focus on women's health. What have we received for our money?" Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List, a pro-life organization, in January.
"While government subsidies to Planned Parenthood have reached an all-time high, so too has the number of lives ended by this profit-driven abortion business," Dannelfelser continued. "Destroying nearly one million children in three years is not healthcare and does not reflect a concern for vulnerable women and girls. As Planned Parenthood's funding goes up, abortions increase and real health services for women go down."
More taxpayer subsidization on the way
Now, according to the Washington Examiner, taxpayer support to Planned Parenthood has just been expanded - to help expand enrollment in health insurance exchanges mandated by the Affordable Care Act:
Washington, D.C.'s health insurance exchange has awarded a $375,000 grant to abortion provider Planned Parenthood to help enroll participants in Obamacare.
As part of its effort to boost enrollment in the exchange created by President Obama's health care law, the D.C. Health Benefit Exchange doled out $6.4 million to 35 DC-based groups. Those groups include local churches as well as health care and community organizations.
"We are excited to create these partnerships with trusted organizations that have deep roots in the communities that make up the District of Columbia," said Executive Board Chair Diane C. Lewis, M.P.A. "The new health law offers essential benefits that will improve the health and security of the residents of our city. It is critically important that we have trained experts available to help ensure those benefits reach the people who need them."
According to the exchange board, the chosen "experts" will "undergo approximately 30 hours of rigorous training" so they can better trap hapless Americans into these government-run health exchanges.
"They will provide help with the on-line application and will work closely with DC Health Link certified and licensed insurance brokers who will be available to provide advice including recommendations on best coverage depending on a person's needs," the board said.
"DC Health Link Assisters are a critical part of our enrollment efforts. The District's low uninsured rate is both great news and a challenge. There are no easy to reach uninsured people, so we have to be smart, strategic, and creative. These organizations are trusted voices and sources of information in their communities and they will be our boots on the ground. Together we will get the District to near universal coverage," said Mila Kofman, J.D., executive director of the DC Health Benefit Exchange Authority.
Cash for killing babies
The Susan B. Anthony List notes that it's big business for Planned Parenthood to operate its abortion mills.
The group says that "a record $542 million in taxpayer dollars by way of government grants, contracts, and Medicaid reimbursements" went to Planned Parenthood in 2011-2012.
"As if these numbers weren't already horrifying, Planned Parenthood has upped the ante even further by mandating that all affiliates provide abortions beginning this year. Americans are sick and tired of underwriting the nation's largest abortion business," says Dannenfelser.
"Contraception services dropped by 12 percent since 2009, and cancer-screening and prevention services dropped by 29 percent," adds SBA List's Mallory Quigley.
"So Planned Parenthood spent much of the last couple of years making the case for why they should receive taxpayer funding and really relying on taxpayers to fill up their coffers -- and they're not providing the healthcare services that they claim," she said.
