Hollywood hot shots spend $90,000 a month on substance addiction rehabs

by Lance Johnson

(NaturalNews) Costing anywhere between $55,000 and $90,000, a substance addiction rehab center in Malibu offers Hollywood hot shots a 31 day rehab program that provides special, lavish accommodations.

Malibu's Hollywood rehab center boasts a campus sporting hot tubs, sun decks, and heated pools.
Substance addiction is turned into pure vanity as paparazzi flood the rehab centers and takes shots of Hollywood stars riding horses into the sunset or doing yoga poses. The whole experience is practically glamorized, as Hollywood stars become featured in magazines across the country.

Worse yet, the lavish $90,000 accommodations for the hot shots aren't even viewed as luxuries, and are instead called needs by the professionals who cater to them.

"If you have people with needs who are highly successful, they're going to want to go to a place that's like what they know," said Sack. "When you tell people, 'We're going to put you in this institutional type of treatment,' you basically give them reasons not to come."

Lavish rehab doesn't deal with root problems of celebrity ego

Facilities such as LA's Promises rehab center have accommodated the infamous Sheens and Spears. These programs cost upwards of $34,500 for a 30-day rehab treatment. These rehab centers are more like a playground hide-out center instead of an actual addiction recovery intervention program. By enabling lavish living quarters, the centers cater to the celebrity's desires, wants, and demands, instead of curbing their addictive appetites. By not teaching restraint, these centers don't deal with the root of addictive behavior but instead enable their wasteful, lusty lifestyle.

New One80Center to be the "ultimate rehabilitation refuse"

CEO of the up-and-coming One80Center, Alex Shohet says, "You can't force them to recover. You have to conspire." Shohet is erecting a loft-like, 100,000-square-foot complex, featuring a state of the art pool, screening room, "Soho House-type" lounge, auditorium, gymnasium, and editing suites.

The playground allows hot shots to recover from their addiction and spend more money in a month than most people spend in a year to live. The facility boasts a state of the art recording studio to be named Recovery Vinyl. The budget for the garden outside tops $7,000 a month to maintain.

Babying celebrities allows no real chance for recovery

Therapist Susan Winston, says, "When people come in here, they've often been 'yes'd' nearly to death." Instead of calling celebrities patients, therapists always refer to them as clients.

20-year veteran counselor Sherri Lewis, who has worked at the Malibu treatment centers, says, "You have to meet people where they're at if they come from backgrounds of privilege."

Many professionals in the addiction recovery community find this advice treacherous.

"If you need your hand held and a special chef and an acupuncturist, you may not be ready for treatment," says Christopher Kennedy Lawford, former actor and author of Recover to Live: Kick any Habit, Manage Any Addiction.

"I don't believe in coddling, especially coddling addicts in the entertainment business. The people who are sick here are enabled beyond belief, and this only furthers it." Stripping the privileged of their luxuries is the only way to give celebrities a true chance at recovery.

Even Hollywood manager Jeff Wald believes the celebrities need to be stripped of their luxuries, "You have to look at yourself objectively, to get out of yourself and your ego," he says. "It's hard to do when you're in the same surroundings as when you're in your house."

Indeed, pampered celebrities, who go in for treatment that is more lavish than most people's normal lives, are basically being told you can do whatever you want. That's why they relapse into addictive behavior very often and the whole 30-day $90,000 waste of a rehab becomes available to them again.

It all becomes a sick cycle. It becomes like a game, a big show, and the vanity press seems to eat it up.

Celebrities bask in luxury while prisoners refused treatment

Meanwhile, as celebrities bask in their playground, federal prisoners are denied help. The list for addiction treatment in federal prisons now tops 51,000 names of folks who want to change their life. Barred from treatment, many wait years, over a decade for help. According to the Government Accountability Office, only about a third of at least 90,000 prisoners are receiving treatment to combat addictions. Most of these prisoners are simply low level drug dealers, users and addicts who are seeking a lifestyle change.

As Hollywood stars play in their mansion rehab centers, receiving fake treatment, regular folks are being denied treatment altogether. While the rest of the world doesn't hear them as they bang on their cell walls, they instead pick up the latest magazine of a Hollywood hotshot posing in their lavish rehab center retreat.
