Study: Kinky people are mentally healthier

by Mike Bundrant

(NaturalNews) Uh oh.

A recent study scores a huge win for naughtiness.

Practitioners of sexual sadism and masochism have been proven to be psychologically healthier than their vanilla counterparts.

According to the study published in the prestigious Journal of Sexual Medicine, BDSM practitioners were "less neurotic, more extroverted, more open to new experiences, more conscientious, less rejection sensitive, had higher subjective well-being, yet were less agreeable."

BDSM practitioners "either did not differ from the general population and if they differed, they always differed in the more favorable direction," concludes Andreas Wismeijer, coauthor of Psychological Characteristics of BDSM Practitioners.

Of course, this doesn't mean that sexual sadism or masochism makes people healthy. It may simply mean that a healthier class of people choose this non-mainstream lifestyle.

Either way, these results fly in the face of psychiatry, which labels sexual sadism and masochism as mental illness

That's right. Our friends the psychiatrists classify this proven healthier crowd as mentally ill.

If you think about it, ignorantly going along with the crowd and continually caving in to the status quo is more twisted than doing what you consciously find pleasurable together with others who are doing the same.

I am not a BDSM practitioner, for the record, but I do think your average person is more mentally tweaked than this fringe crowd of people who have consciously chosen their lifestyle. What's different about mainstreamers is that they just won't admit their own forms of masochism.

Most average people are mentally sadistic and refuse to deal with it

Isn't it a bit sadistic to criticize yourself all the time? You call yourself an idiot, order yourself around, make yourself feel miserable and generally complain your way through life.

For most people, this twisted behavior is normal. Nurturing an inner critic is perhaps the most common form of emotional self-torture - and it's a nearly universal phenomenon.

To motivate themselves, others begin barking orders at themselves in their mind. "Get with the program! You'd better get this done or else!"

This is supposed to be motivating. Of course, they end up rebelling against themselves, and becoming depressed that they cannot get themselves to do anything.

This is considered pretty normal stuff, but I say it is more twisted than two BDSM practitioners agreeing to create a sexual scene together.

Actually, millions of average couples create their own miserable scenes together. They spend decades driving each other crazy with frustration, each blaming the other for all the problems. Yet, they continue to stay together and keep up the same old behaviors. Sadism, masochism and then some.

Then there is all the sadistic behavior that average people don't even care to investigate

Stuff yourself with pesticides, GMOs, chemical preservatives and sweeteners. Fill your stomach with alcohol and your lungs with tobacco. Smear some beauty product chemicals into your scalp and skin, day in and day out. This is all normal.

We call these serious forms of self-harm "modern convenience" or "advanced technology." I call it masochism.

Pop some serious drugs with life or death consequences that you and your doc know nothing about, really, and that he gave you after a five-minute consultation. Let's call that health care in our normal, sadistic little world.

And to ensure that we will always get our fill of poison, we elect lawmakers and support corporations that guarantee a lifetime dose. We make sure our children get the same.

There may be nothing healthier than to recognize your own masochistic tendencies. When you do, you can choose to continue or put a stop to the downward spiral. Until you reach this level of self-awareness, your unconscious masochism will only result in self-sabotage.

Maybe sexual sadists and masochists come off healthier because they have consciously chosen where to direct masochistic energy, whereas most people allow it to run wild in their lives.
