US government buying up all the ammo to make sure you can't
by J. D. Heyes
(NaturalNews) Unhappy with the lack of progress on new gun control legislation, the Obama Administration is using your tax dollars to corner the market on ammunition, buying up as much as possible to limit the amount the public can purchase, according to a U.S. lawmaker.
Sen. Jim Inhofe, R-Okla., in an interview with radio talk show host Aaron Klein, said he thinks purchase orders from the Department of Homeland Security to purchase more than 1 billion rounds of firearms ammunition is part of an "intentional" effort to "dry up the market" for law-abiding gun owners.
"We have in this country the Second Amendment that preserves the right to keep and bear arms," Inhofe said, "and the president doesn't believe in that."
'He's doing this so honest law-abiding citizens can't buy ammo'Inhofe was discussing his AMMO bill - Ammunition Management for More Obtainability - with Klein, WorldNetDaily reported. The measure aims to limit non-defense, armed federal agencies to purchasing and/or obtaining pre-Obama Administration levels of ammunition. The measure, S.843, has been referred to a Senate committee; a similar bill in the House has been introduced by Rep. Frank Lucas, R-Okla.
"President Obama has been doing everything he could to stop the private ownership of guns in America," Inhofe said. "Yet he's been voted down in a big way by a large majority, and so my feeling is that he's doing this to buy up [ammunition] so honest, law-abiding citizens here in the United States, like my son, can't even buy ammunition because government is purchasing so much."
Ammunition shortages have been reported for months by suppliers and retailers all over the country.
For its part, DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano - not known as a bastion of integrity - has said her department is merely trying to make the best use of taxpayer dollars by buying in bulk, adding that as much as 80 percent of the ammo will be used for training purposes. Call it the "Sam's Club" excuse, but Inhofe isn't buying into it.
"We had someone testify the other day the DHS has the 'right' - this is a bureaucrat who said this - they have the 'right' to buy as much as they want, and they're planning to buy 750 million rounds," Inhofe told Klein, according to WND. "That is more than three times the amount our soldiers are using for training to defend our nation."
"I believe it's intentional," the senator said of the ammunition shortages many private and local law enforcement purchasers are experiencing. "It's just another effort to restrict gun activity and ownership."
"This has never happened in this country before," Inhofe added. "We've never had government trying to take that much control at the expense of law-abiding citizens. And we're not going to let it happen."
Sadly, Inhofe's AMMO bill still does not have any co-sponsors. But word is getting out and not a few lawmakers are getting inquisitive - finally.
The bill is designed "to have the Government Accounting Office inventory not the Defense Department but all other departments that use weaponry as to what they're doing in terms of the amount of ammunition they have bought to dry up the market for honest, law-abiding citizens," he said.
Buying binge really began after Sandy Hook
Early on NaturalNews began reporting this story.
In January, editor and founder Mike Adams, The Health Ranger, reported that ammunition shortages - which began in earnest after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings and the president's near-immediate call for new gun control legislation - were getting so severe that even local police agencies were having trouble finding enough - a situation he said was a threat to public safety (http://www.naturalnews.com/038632_ammo_shortage_police.html).
"Here's why all this matters. In a time of social unrest, cops are your best friends. Without cops on the streets, every major U.S. city would devolve into a gang-infested crap-hole within 72 hours or less. Cops are the men and women in blue who prevent the more malicious members of the human race from expressing the kind of evil sons of bitches they really are deep inside," he wrote.
That was January. Now, in May, the ammo supply is no better. And the government just keeps on buying.
