Homeland security encourages Americans to fight back against crazed shooters using scissors
by J. D. Heyes
(NaturalNews) Run. Hide. Fight. That is the basis of a new course of instruction from the Department of Homeland Security in the event you are unfortunate enough to be in a business, workplace or other location where there is an "active shooter" - a crazed gunman who is trying to kill anyone he can.
Two of the three options - run and hide - are appropriate, given the reality that in this day and age, the concept of meeting equal force with force (the very core of concealed carry laws) is foreign to the statists who craft society's behavioral rules.
The department's third option - fight - is entirely inappropriate, within the context of the DHS recommendations, because the agency isn't advising you to carry a weapon wherever you go. Instead, they are advising you to fight back with office equipment.
Like with, say, a pair of scissors.
Run, hide - and stab?
These helpful hints which are brought to you by your federal government come a little more than a month after the horrific Sandy Hook Elementary School murders in Connecticut, where no victims, as far as we can tell, were armed with paper cutters.
"If you are caught out in the open and cannot conceal yourself or take cover, you might consider trying to overpower the shooter with whatever means are available," says the narrator of the video, as an office worker is seen pulling a pair of scissors from a desk drawer.
Titled "Options for Consideration," the nearly four-minute-long video begins with "chilling scenes from the 2007 Virginia Tech massacre, the 2009 mass shooting at Fort Hood, Texas, and 2011 attempted assassination" of U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., during a public speaking event in Tucson, the New York Post reported.
However, the video shifts quickly to contrived footage of office workers hunkering under desks, cowering in corners and dodging into closets to hide from a crazed gunman on the premises.
"To protect your hiding place, lock the door if you can. Block the door with heavy furniture," says the male narrator.
Other recommended strategies for surviving the onslaught include hiding "behind large items such as cabinets or desks." Once there, the narrator instructs you to "remain quiet. Silence your cell phone or pager. Even the vibration setting can give away a hiding position."
A similar video also produced by DHS and shot with the cooperation of the Houston Police Department features footage of a staged massacre and walks potential victims through similar recommendations.
But not all security experts agree with DHS' advice to run and hide.
Richard Feldman, head of the Independent Firearm Owners Association, told the Post he's got a better suggestion than being armed with a pair of scissors - carrying a legally owned firearm.
"That's why I prefer a gun, and I usually do carry a gun when it is lawful to do so," he said. "Clearly, you use whatever you can" to fight for your life, he added.
Apparently, the videos are part of the Obama administration's newly launched campaign to "reduce gun violence," a phrase the president and allies in government and the media have parroted ad nauseum since the Sandy Hook shooting. That said, DHS and police departments around the country have operated "active shooter" training programs for years, ramping up such training in the wake of the Columbine shooting.
Meanwhile, DHS arms itself to the teeth
The video reported by the Post was in production prior to the Dec. 14 Newtown, Conn., killings, but it was timed for release in conjunction with Obama's latest push for new, "sensible" gun control legislation.
Of course, as Obama pushes for more disarmament and DHS advises you to arm yourself with a pair scissors, only a precious few media outlets, including Natural News, are reporting that Homeland Security has, in recent months, purchased more than 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition - enough to wage full-scale war for decades.
In addition, the agency has also purchased 7,000 "assault weapons" the administration is currently trying to take away from law-abiding Americans.
But given the fact that the opposition party in Congress seems impotent and most mainstream "media outlets" like The New York Times and The Washington Post, both of which routinely reported secret intelligence during the Bush administration, (http://newsbusters.org), most Americans are not likely to hear about it.
