Skip the chips - Enjoy these guacamole recipes with healthier dippers

by Christy Pooschke

(NaturalNews) Guacamole is a healthy and delicious snack. Unfortunately, the typical items dipped into guacamole are not so great for your health. Commercially prepared corn chips are generally deep fried in unhealthy oils. They often contain genetically modified ingredients (GMOs) as well. In rat studies, GMOs have been linked to allergies, digestive distress, fertility problems, liver problems, infant mortality, etc. Luckily, you can skip the corn chips and still enjoy these homemade guacamole recipes. Just use the delicious, healthier dipper options provided here.

Guacamole is a great way to incorporate avocados into your diet. These fruits are a good source of protein, and they contain loads of minerals and vitamins. Avocados contain healthy fats that increase good cholesterol, too. Depending how elaborate you want to be with your guacamole recipe, you can pack this dip full of other healthful produce, as well (e.g., tomatoes, cilantro, lime, onions).

Be careful what you dip into your guacamole, though. You don't want to defeat the purpose of all of these healthful ingredients by dipping health-depleting commercial corn chips into your sea of nutrient-filled goodness. Corn chips are a crunchy and convenient snack food. Unfortunately, commercial corn chips are likely made from genetically modified corn - unless they are certified organic or labeled specifically as "non-GMO verified." Most corn chips are also deep fried in oil, and the food industry uses a variety of unhealthy options for this process. Canola, corn and soybean oils are frequently used; and they often contain GMOs.

Instead of commercial corn chips, try dipping raw vegetables into your guacamole. Freshly sliced red, orange and yellow bell peppers are especially colorful and delicious. They add a hefty dose of vitamin C to this snack - without the risk of GMO contamination. They are also much more aesthetically pleasing than corn chips. Raw carrot sticks and celery sticks are two other great dipper options. Select one of the delicious guacamole recipes below, and enjoy them the chip-free way.
