Natural bug busters that are non toxic and effective

by Dr. Veronique Desaulniers

(NaturalNews) The use of toxic pesticides in the environment has taken a huge toll on this beautiful planet. On a large scale, there are the insecticides that are used in agriculture that basically poison organisms that are considered to be harmful to crops.

In 2006 and 2007, the US alone used 5.1 billion pounds of pesticides in the environment. Staggering numbers!

Since the "green" movement is slowly beginning to wake up the masses about the effects of these toxins on our health, more people are asking about healthy alternatives to toxic chemicals. Your home environment is a great way to begin to make a difference.

Since your home is a micro-environment, so to speak, it not only has an impact on the planet as a whole, but it also affects the health of your family and pets. Sometimes, there may be unwanted guests who you do not want to share your space with. That could include, silver fish, ticks, roaches and ants.

Incorporating natural ways to control pests in your home can be very simple and effective.

First, you can take the commercial approach and actually hire a company that uses only organic compounds like plant extracts and botanicals or simple traps and lures. Make sure you ask questions about the quality of their products with proof that they are actually organic and safe.

Secondly, you can personally take action by purchasing products that can be applied to baseboards and in corners of rooms. The "bug busters" can consist of repellent and insecticide sprays that contain neem oil, peppermint oil, limonene from lemons or pyrethrins from Chrysanthemums. The beauty of these purchased products is that they act as neurotoxins if the bugs are present, but they can also act as a repellent to keep the bugs away. They are also bio-degradable so you must apply them every week.

Lastly, there is the home-grown version of the above. For the roaches, sprinkling Boric Acid in cracks and crevices will slowly diminish a bug problem. For ants, you can use something as simple as black pepper or ground cloves to keep ants out of the house. Sprinkle small amounts in the area where they seem to be congregating.

The best homemade recipe that seems to work best for all insects is garlic, onions and cayenne peppers.

Simply grind up a large bulb of garlic, one onion and two peppers in a food processor. Let stand in one gallon of water for at least 24 hours. Strain the pulp and spray liberally around baseboards and even around the outside perimeter of your home. The spray can leave a strong residual odor, but lighten it up a bit by adding a few drops of lavender oil or peppermint oil to the gallon of water.

Always wear protective eye wear and gloves when handling the mixture. As with any strong compounds, make sure your babies and pets do not come in direct contact with the spray.

It has become clear that the connection between toxic chemicals in our environment and the increase of many degenerative and chronic diseases, like cancer, is a serious and daily threat to our health. Reducing or eliminating the toxic load in your home environment is an essential step for healing and preventing breast cancer, or any type of cancer for that matter. Be proactive with prevention by using simple and natural pest control.
