Congressional staffers tweet lurid details while partying on taxpayer dime

by J. D. Heyes

(NaturalNews) To the hard-working residents and the swelling ranks of indigents in Washington, D.C., the nation's capital isn't really known as "Party Central." That's because they are too busy trying to make a living in one of the most expensive cities in the country or, in the case of the latter socioeconomic group, just trying to survive.

With that in mind they - along with taxpayers - ought to be more than just a little upset with staffers of Democratic Congressman Rick Larsen of Washington. Over the course of months, three of them have been using the lawmaker's D.C. office as a party pad and then, inexplicably, tweeting about their "aides gone wild" behavior.

Besides boasting about drinking shots of "Jack" (a likely reference to Jack Daniels whiskey), the staffers - one of whom was a legislative correspondent and two of whom were legislative assistants - also made insults about their boss, including such derogatory terms as "idiot" and a term George W. Bush used to describe a New York Times reporter in 2000.

"My coworker just took a shot of Jack crouching behind my desk," one staffer tweeted. Another tweeted he "couldn't pass a field sobriety test right now."

While the behavior of the three staffers is despicable, the reaction to their behavior by Congressman Larsen was admirable. Bryan Thomas, a spokesman for the congressman, said as soon as he found out about what they had been doing, they were gone less than an hour later.

"Neither Congressman Larsen nor his other staff were aware of the actions by these three staff members before today," said Thomas. "Congressman Larsen is disappointed by their actions and takes this very seriously. He has made it clear that he will not tolerate this kind of behavior." Bravo for Mr. Larsen. And here's hoping not another taxpayer dollar is spent on the salaries of the three real idiots who used to work for him.
