Why legalizing marijuana would be a very good thing (Opinion)

by Paul Fassa

(NaturalNews) Legalizing marijuana in the USA projects a bigger picture than easing the drug war tyranny on harmless pot smokers. What is overlooked is the medicinal value that marijuana offers, which threatens Big Pharma. If the THC compounds in marijuana that cure as well as get you high are removed, then why isn't industrial hemp legalized in the USA? Decriminalizing marijuana could be the gateway for restoring sanity to agriculture and sustainable industry by allowing hemp to be grown for its many viable applications once again.

Medicinal Values of THC Hemp

No one has created more positive evidence publicly than Rick Simpson, formerly of Nova Scotia, Canada and now residing in Europe. He cured himself of cancer with home-made hemp oil, a distilled concentrate of hemp with THC. Then he proceeded to cure friends and neighbors free of charge in his small Nova Scotia town. Those he helped had been failed by mainstream medicine, which is available to Canadians with no out of pocket expense. His hemp oil cured them of cancer and other debilitating diseases.

That community made an effort to tell the world of this natural miracle drug. Their naive effort led to police raids and forced Rick into European exile. Rick's saga is told in three parts preserved by Natural News for this author: "Small Community Cancer Cure Crushed by Big Pharma", parts III, II, and I Dec 2009.

Many international independent labs have conducted tests that confirm marijuana's healing virtues for cancer. Those positive study results are not publicized widely. So they are mentioned in the prior referenced article as well as others in this article's sources section below.

For most diseases, oils, edibles, and vapors are more effective than smoking pot. But glaucoma sufferers and chemotherapy victims find smoking pot very beneficial. With this awareness, a few states allow medical marijuana. But the overarching tyranny of federal policies threatens the programs of those states. This is why it needs to be legalized on a federal level.

Industrial and Agricultural Benefits

Hemp can be used to manufacture cloth, paper, and plastics. Yes, non-petrochemical based biodegradable plastic and less deforestation for paper mills.

The plant itself is hardy and is able to resist invading insects without needing pesticides. This and the short seed to harvest cycle of six months makes it an ideal cash crop for small and large organic farms to rotate with other crops. Rotating crops is beneficial for improving the topsoil's mineral content, which is eroded by large commercial monoculture farming practices.

Canada and a few other countries permit non-THC hemp production. The hemp seeds and oils are distributed world-wide as omega-3 rich super foods that are perfectly balanced with omega-6 and omega-9.

When a USDA official was queried some years ago regarding the USA's refusal to follow Canada's lead, the official claimed that inspecting hemp crops to ensure permissible THC levels would be too difficult and costly. Maybe the USDA is too busy raiding honest organic farmers and raw milk producers these days.

Conclusion

It's unlikely that the heralded proposal to legalize marijuana will get much traction now. But it is important for more of us to realize how marijuana or hemp prohibition has hampered all of us in many ways. We should encourage legalization. Hemp prohibition has been generated solely by Big Pharma and other major industries to keep nature's great gift from competing with their interests.

Marijuana is not an addictive or gateway drug. It causes less harm than alcohol. It is a valuable medicine, and even non-THC hemp production would greatly enhance sustainable survival.
