NYC restaurants defy government reassurances about Fukushima by voluntarily testing fish for radiation

by Ethan A. Huff, staff writer

(NaturalNews) Not content with the official government story that the unfolding Fukushima Daiichi nuclear fallout is of no concern to Americans, some New York City restaurant owners are voluntarily having their fish stocks tested for certain radioactive isotopes. Though recent reports claim that none of the fish scanned thus far have shown up positive for radiation, some restaurant owners simply want to do everything they can to ensure the safety of fish served to customers.

According to a recent CBS New York report, several NYC-area restaurants serving seafood have begun testing their fish for external emitter radiation, including celebrity chef Eric Ripert's Le Bernardin restaurant in Manhattan. Ripert literally has every piece of fish individually scanned with a hand-held radiation detector in an effort to ensure that all fish is safe.

"Some of our clients started asking us some questions and they were concerned," Ripert said to CBS. "For a week now we are using it (radiation detectors) on all products that come to the restaurant and so far it's absolutely zero radiation."

Such efforts, of course, are really the only responsible thing to do when considering that tens of thousands of gallons of radioactive contaminated water are being dumped into the Pacific Ocean every single day (http://www.naturalnews.com/031965_Fukushima_...). Officials keep repeating that everything is just fine, even though the situation at Fukushima is literally out of control.

The bad news about all this, however, is the fact that most hand-held radiation detectors are not capable of detecting all types of radiation, including the highly-deadly plutonium that has most likely already leaked from the Fukushima facility (http://www.naturalnews.com/031736_plutonium_...). Many Geiger counters also do not detect alpha radiation, which is highly toxic when ingested.
