Bipartisan healthcare exemption legislation first of many to challenge Obamacare

by Jonathan Benson, staff writer

(NaturalNews) In recent months, many states have been scrambling to develop "opt-out" legislation for the Obama Administration's massive health care overhaul. But rather than simply be a partisan issue, many politicians from both sides of the aisle have decided to join forces and work to exempt their states from some or all of the new federal mandates.

According to a recent Reuters report, Senators Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Scott Brown (R-MA) have together crafted a new proposal that would allow states to file exemptions from certain requirements of the federal health care bill. Such requirements include mandating that everyone purchase health insurance and requiring all employers to provide coverage or else face penalties.

"States shouldn't be forced by the federal government to adopt a one-size-fits all health care plan," explained Brown in a statement. "Each state's health care needs are different. Our bill provides flexibility and allows states ... to opt out of portions of the health care law."

The proposal is said to be one of many that will be put before the new Congress to challenge portions or the entirety of the new health care law. And according to reports, it is the first official one to be put forth.

Recently, the Tenth Amendment Center (TAC) put forth a piece of legislation that completely overturns the federal health care law. Dubbed the "Federal Health Care Nullification Act", the bill is the only one of its kind that allows states to truly nullify the federal health care bill while simultaneously declaring their sovereignty (http://www.naturalnews.com/030297_tenth_amen...).
