Part II: Heal Chemical Sensitivities

by Linda Wojcik

(NaturalNews) Healing Chemical Sensitivities Part I talked about the importance of pure water in order to heal chemical toxicity. Food choices are equally important. Organic is Always the Best Choice.

For the past few decades, pure food became undesirable. Fast food, chemically altered food, and artificially colored foods filled our pantries and refrigerators. Cooking from scratch became a memory of the past.

We are now realizing that the food we put into our bodies makes a huge difference. We are waking up to the reality that all the chemicals and colors we have been unconsciously consuming for years may be poisoning our bodies and minds.

As we awaken, how do we begin to transform all the damage we have done? We begin by reading labels.

Food sprayed with pesticides can cause many reactions in a chemically sensitive individual ranging from skin rashes to behavior problems. Purchase as much organic fruits & vegetables as you can afford.

According to a Consumer Reports Article, the following fruits and vegetables were rated the worst sprayed. A score of over 100 is reason for concern:

Peaches, domestically grown (N. America) 4,848
Peaches from Chile 471
Winter squash, domestically grown 1,706
Apples, domestically grown 550
Pears, domestically grown 435
Pears from Mexico 415
Spinach, domestically grown 349
Spinach from Mexico 256
Grapes, domestically grown 228
Grapes from Chile 339
Celery, domestically grown 255
Green beans, domestically grown 222

Raisins are dried grapes, so remember to purchase only organic raisins. Conscious individuals have recognized that conventional strawberries and bananas have the ability to create physical and emotional reactions. Both should be added to our "only buy organic" list.

Food labels should be short and simple. Artificial colors and preservatives are never an acceptable option. Chemicals are often hidden behind abbreviations. The rule is clear; if you can`t read it, don`t eat it!

Artificial sweeteners have been linked to many adverse effects on humans and can create uncontrollable behaviors. These ingredients must be eliminated from the diet. Many of these artificial sweeteners are hiding behind names that have become common household words:

Aspartame
Acesulfame-K
Saccharin
Sucralose
Alitame
Cyclamate

Foods that list simple sugars and refined carbohydrates can cause havoc to the chemically sensitive individual. Whole grain products should replace white and unrefined carbohydrates. The best sweeteners for younger children are organic blue agave and pure maple syrup. As children age, barley and rice malt, organic unsulphured blackstrap molasses and organic unrefined honey can be added. Purchasing products that are free of all sugars allows us to consciously add our sweeteners wisely.

Frequenting stores that sell in bulk helps to defray the high costs associated with buying organic. Nuts, seeds, dried fruit, grains, herbs and beans can be found in the organic bulk section at substantial savings. Refrigeration keeps them fresh and free of little insects that also prefer organic.

Organic and/or free range eggs, meats and poultry should be the only choice as well as fish that has been caught in the deep sea.

When dealing with chemical sensitivities, most homes and schools may not be conducive to maintaining health. School lunches and the average American meal are a source for symptoms; packing a lunch may be the only option to ensure our children's health outside of their natural and organic home environment.
