Kramar Pet Products Announce Recall

by Susan Thixton

(NaturalNews) The first news involved cats in Australia, the only connection was a cat food to six cats dying of a mysterious disease. Shortly after came news that dogs were becoming ill and dying. Although many feared the dog and cat deaths were related, further information tells otherwise.

Orijen Cat Food, a popular, high quality cat food manufactured in Canada seemed to be the only link to the illness and death of six cats in Australia. Australian law required the Orijen pet food to be irradiated before sold to pet owners within that country. Though many customers of Orijen pet foods worried, it is believed at this point the irradiation, required by Australia, is the cause of the mysterious cat deaths.

Days later the news broke that small dogs in Australia, up to 100, were suffering from kidney failure. University of Sydney veterinarians originally reported a meat in a 'popular dog food' was the suspect link; no pet food name was provided due to "legal threats" from the manufacturer. Days after the first news, pet owners finally learned a pet treat Kramar Supa Naturals Chicken Breast Strips was the tainted products causing deaths and illnesses to dogs. These chicken strip treats are made in China.

December 9, 2008 Kramar Pet Products announced a voluntary recall:
KRAMAR SUPA NATURALS CHICKEN BREAST STRIPS 150G PRODUCT CODE 85148
KRAMAR SUPA NATURALS CHICKEN BREAST STRIPS 110G PRODUCT CODE 85149

It's difficult to understand how any pet food or human food manufacturer can continue to purchase products or ingredients from China. Thousands of deaths and countless illnesses of people and pets are all linked to tainted Chinese products. The 'hand writing is on the wall'; Chinese imported foods or food ingredients continue to be a huge risk. As to why some pet food/pet treat manufacturers still rely on Chinese imports, one can only assume the price is right. To the contrary, the price has been very high for many pet owners around the world who have lost their beloved friend due to the tainted imported foods and treats.

Most pet foods and treats do not 'advertise' the fact that the product or ingredients within originate in China, despite purchasers deserving to know. Please, do not feed your dog or cat any food or treat without first calling the manufacturer and asking if any ingredients originate from China. Five minutes of your time could be a life saver for your pet.

Wishing you and your pet the best,
