Wikipedia founder launches political site Campaigns Wikia

by NaturalNews

(NaturalNews) Political buffs and armchair pundits have a new resource as of this week: Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales announced on Tuesday a wiki devoted to heavily debated political topics, called Campaigns Wikia.

Wales announced his latest wiki foray in an "open letter to the political biosphere," in which he gave notice that he was targeting activists with every political stance who have based themselves in the internet. Web-based politics have taken off since such high-profile events as Howard Dean's grassroots campaign, which was based from a web site, and rampant blogger coverage of the 2004 party conventions.

Wales intention is to keep Campaigns Wikia a nonpartisan site, despite claims that the "blogosphere" has a decidedly liberal slant. He hopes it will be a tool that voters and political junkies alike can use to become better informed about issues.

"Whoever you are and whatever you believe, you can share with me my sincere desire that the process starts to be about substance and thought, rather than style and image," Wales said.

Campaigns Wikia will follow the format established by wiki favorites such as Wikipedia, Wicktionary and Wikiquote, in that users will be able to edit and contribute to any part of the site as long as they sign up for a free account.
