Officials in Bahamas work to keep tourists safe

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

At the third annual National Tourism Conference in the Bahamas, Bahamas safety officials discussed ways in which they could ensure tourists will continue to feel safe traveling there.

The incidents of terrorists attacks around the world have raised the bar for all law enforcement agencies and according to Reginald Ferguson, assistant commission of police; Bahamian law officials have been actively seeking new ways to further addressing safety and security in the tourism Industry. Tourists come not only to enjoy The Bahamas' scenery, Mr. Ferguson explained, but also to take pleasure in the safety and security of "our shores." "For most countries personal safety and security is ...the number one concern in the tourism industry and in response the global law enforcement community has redirected its fight to address the new dangers terrorists pose," Mr. Ferguson said. " In this new paradigm shift we recognize that crime, not only local crime can be disastrous to the tourism industry," he said. According to Mr. Ferguson measures introduced recently by the Police Force to keep crime at bay in several highly frequented tourist areas are working. He also emphasized the importance of the partnership between the Royal Bahamas Police Force and the Ministry of Tourism. "...This type of partnership is essential particularly in addressing tourists' related crimes and ensuring that complaints are dealt with expeditiously and are referred to the relevant agencies if necessary," Mr. Ferguson said. "This new initiative represents months of planning and proper risk assessment. "One can imagine the difficulties the police and the prosecutors face when simple matters were thrown out of court because foreign witnesses returned home and could not be located because of change of address or other factors," said Mr. Ferguson. "Tourism police officers are now visible on a daily basis on Bay Street and the surrounding street for the safety of our citizens and visitors," Mr. Ferguson said.
