Popular ticket website warns of new airline regulations on pet travel

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

Many airlines are now refusing the transportation of certain pets because of risks they might face in flight, warns CheapFlights.com.

Passengers planning to fly with a pet this holiday season are advised to plan ahead to avoid being caught out by new regulations. Following the introduction of new rules, many airlines are tightening up their restrictions on pet travel and some are refusing to transport domestic animals altogether. Many airlines have restrictions on pets flying during hot weather. For example US Airways refuses to fly pets in the bellies of their planes in high temperatures. Other airlines require that cages are extra secure and sturdy, meaning some passengers are forced to do some last minute shopping before boarding their cheap flight. Various restrictions are in force on other airlines, with some refusing to fly "dangerous" breeds or short-nosed dogs, as these are more likely to suffer from respiratory problems. The injury of a pet in-flight is now a federal issue, and airlines are keen to avoid any adverse publicity. Airlines must file a report to the federal Department of Transportation each time a pet is lost, injured or killed on a flight and the reports are made public to allow pet owners to compare airline safety. During the first six months of the new reporting system, 21 dead dogs, cats and a rat were reported, as well as 16 injuries and six lost animals.
