The Scotsman reports that Fairfield General Hospital in Bury, Greater Manchester is under investigation after 1,000 patients were given incorrect diagnoses from their heart ultrasound results.
MORE than 1000 patients may have been wrongly diagnosed with heart problems after a technician misread test results, NHS bosses said today.
An inquiry has been launched at Fairfield General Hospital in Bury, Greater Manchester, after mistakes were uncovered in heart ultrasound results.
The probe was launched after an unnamed cardiac technician at the hospital was found to have reported patients suffering heart complaints when in fact readings were normal.
Letters have been sent to 1053 patients alerting them to the errors.
The records of all patients seen by the technician between May 23 and December 7 last year are to be re-examined.
Dr Ruth Jameson, acting medical director of Pennine Acute Trust, which runs the hospital, said: "This technician, who was supplied by an agency, is no longer doing any work for the Trust."
