MBR Research to convert cane into ethanol and electrical energy
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor
According to the President of MBR Research, the company needs about 200,000 tons of cane per year to make about 4 million gallons of ethanol and 12 to 13 megawatts per hour.
With the apparent failure of Johnathan Chin's Stevia project, which was highly touted to replace cane sugar, another foreign investor has disclosed plans to turn the defunct sugar industry into a golden opportunity for the Federation.
President of a MBR Research Inc., a New Jersey-based company, told the SUN of a project to convert cane into ethanol and electrical energy.
"It needs about 200,000 tons of cane per year and we are looking to make about 4 million gallons of ethanol per year and electricity at a rate of 12 to 13 megawatts per hour.
These canes are very lovely for our taste.
We're looking to make some progress with the government on this and looking to bring in our own investment, about $50 million and we'll see how it can go forward," Dr. Ben-reuven said.
Dr. Ben-reuven used the opportunity to allay any doubts or skepticism about his project, especially in light of the recent failure of the Stevia project, which is still fresh on citizens' minds.
"If we cannot bring enough money because we cannot get leases on significant amounts of land to generate up to 200,000 tons of cane per year, then we would not be able to complete the cycle.
We're in contact with the bank so we are well on the way," he assured.
Dr. Ben-reuven and his technical team visited the island last week to "assess the efficacy of the canes."
"We have carried out assessments on the cane and we think that we are perfect for our project," one of the technicians, Dr. Howard, said.
Dr. Ben-reuven left the island last Saturday.
St. Kitts closed the sugar industry on 31 July, 2005, as sugar manufacturing was no longer viable because production costs exceeded revenue generated from the crop.
