Interior airplane pictures on blog cause controversy
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor
Jeremy Hermanns is receiving both positive and negative responses to his recent blog. He posted pictures he took of himself in an oxygen mask on Alaska Airlines flight 536 when the cabin depressurized.
A California man who was a passenger on the Alaska Airlines flight that lost cabin pressure earlier this week is now being both praised and scorned online for taking photographs and posting an account on his blog.
Hermanns took this shot after grabbing his oxygen mask as the plane in which he was a passenger made an emergency descent.
The drama began Monday, soon after Alaska Airlines flight 536 departed Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on its way to Burbank, Calif., with Hermanns and 139 other passengers.
The plane had depressurized and passenger oxygen masks were deployed after a foot-long hole ripped open along its fuselage, possibly because a baggage handler may have accidentally damaged the jet before takeoff.
His shots include a close-up of his face, oxygen mask in place.
The next day, back at home in Los Angeles, Hermanns posted the photos and his account of what happened on his Internet blog at www.jeremyhermanns.org.
Then he learned that he and other "citizen journalists," such as those who documented last summer's London bombings and Hurricane Katrina's devastation along the Gulf Coast, can attract a lot of attention --- good and bad.
He was accused of endangering those aboard by turning on this camera phone --- a contention Hermanns refutes by saying he activated his device's "plane safe" feature that turns off the cellular phone functions that might interfere with a jet's electronics.
An Internet search marketing manager, Hermanns has been blogging for more than two years.
In his account of the incident, Hermanns wrote that a "non-union baggage handler" might have been responsible for the damage to the jet.
He says that comment might have angered some of the airline's employees and spurred them to attack.
