Rutgers study finds curcumin can stop the growth of tumors

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

Professor Ah-Ng Tony Kong at Rutgers reports on a study of mice that revealed the effect curcumin, a chemical found in curry, has demonstrated in stopping the growth of cancerous tumors.

In laboratory tests on mice injected with prostate cancer cells, the compounds "significantly reduced" tumour growth. The mice were injected with curcumin or the vegetable chemical, alone or in combination three times a week for four weeks, beginning a day before the introduction of the prostate cancer cells. The cancer-fighting effects were even greater when the compounds were combined, Professor Ah-Ng Tony Kong at Rutgers said. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK, with more than 30,100 new cases a year. But the incidence and mortality of prostate cancer have not decreased in past decades, because advanced prostate cancer cells are barely responsive even to high levels of chemotherapy or radiotherapy. The report's authors noted that the incidence of prostate cancer is very low in India, where both plant based foods and curry are popular.
