Israeli doctors find a link between obesity and eye diseases
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor
After reviewing 20 studies, Professor Michael Belkin and Dr. Zohar Habot-Wilner have determined that obesity puts people at great risk for four major eye diseases that lead to blindness.
Overweight and obese people are putting their eyesight at risk, scientists say.
New research shows obesity is linked to eye problems which can lead to blindness.
The connection has been established by two ophthalmologists in Israel.
Professor Michael Belkin and Dr Zohar Habot-Wilner reviewed more than 20 studies involving thousands of patients.
They said they found a consistently strong link between obesity and the occurrence of four major eye diseases that cause blindness.
These were age-related macular degeneration (AMD), cataracts, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy.
Dr Habot-Wilner said: "The message we want to send is that obesity can cause not just cancer and hypertension but also ocular disease.
"While this is something that most ophthalmologists know, it's not common knowledge and it should be.
"It's the risk factor that no one talks about."
