Social abilities of teens could benefit from yoga instruction
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor
Barbara Hays Klein and Regina M. Epp, co-owners of Universal Yoga Center in New Hartford, discuss the benefits yoga can provide teenagers who may need a method for coping with stress and social anxiety.
Yoga boosts physical strength on the mat and inner strength off the mat.
What we build while on our mats, we take with us when we leave our mats.
The asanas (poses) build the physical strength, the balance and the flexibility, but the affirmations we make while in the pose build our inner strength.
We all live in a stressful world, but for the most part, as adults, we have learned coping mechanisms.
Children are far more vulnerable today as they are pressured from every side to be successful academically, participate in a multitude of activities, and be accepted and liked by their peers.
Yoga combines the physical and mental aspects of one's self that builds strength in the body and strength in the mind.
Yoga helps to release stress in the mind and tension in body.
Proper breathing, which promotes a healthy body and more focused mind.
Balanced growth and development of the body.
Development of the mind, including the strengthening of memory and the development of its intellectual capacities.
Through yoga practice, children/teens can begin to know and understand themselves better, learn how to cope more easily with stress and tension, love and respect themselves and others, and find the strength to face challenges that come their way.
