Acupuncturist details the benefits of alternative medicine
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor
The Ada Evening News in Oklahoma speaks with Dr. Michael Riden of the Power Clinic of Chiropractic & Acupuncture about alternative medicine, acupuncture and the power of exercise.
ADA --- According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Americans buy more medication per person than any other country in the world, with more than 130 million people using prescribed drugs.
While it may be necessary to take prescription medication for some illnesses, there are also natural or alternative treatments to help curb pain or illness.
Acupuncture is a technique that was first discovered in China more than 2,000 years ago, which makes it one of the oldest and most commonly used forms of medical treatment in the world.
"Typically the most patients feel is that of a small pin prick and that sensation dissipates within five to ten seconds," Riden said.
"Typically what we do, a patient will receive treatment two to three times a week until some relief or change of symptoms is observed.
In addition to receiving acupuncture treatments, Riden also suggests exercise and vitamin intake to maintain a healthy balance.
"I always recommend acupuncture treatments be coupled with chiropractic adjusting, to make sure the units of the spine are well lined and the nervous system within the spine is functioning optimally," he said.
"In addition to that, base line nutrition involving simple things like a quality multi-vitamin or essential fatty acids or things like that.
"Strength training has long been the missing ingredient in Women's Fitness programs," said Marta Reiner, owner of Curves fitness center.
While there are several herbs to take and choose from, one that Fleet recommends is flax, which is a seed that contains oil made up of alpha linolenic acid, or LNA, an omega-3 fatty acid that she said fights against cholesterol and heart disease.
"You can take herbs for the same problems," Fleet said when comparing both prescribed medicines with natural supplements.
