Levis to sell special iPod jeans

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

The Levis RedWire DLX jeans are expected to go on sale this fall with a built-in iPod pocket and joystick control in the front. The pocket has been designed to invisibly carry the iPod.

Since just about everyone and their dog seems to have an iPod these days, clothing companies are starting to cash in on the trend, most recently the Levi Strauss company, who announced on Tuesday that they will be selling specialized jeans designed to hold an iPod. The new Levi's jeans, which are expected to go on sale this fall under the brand name Levi's RedWire DLX, will even have a built-in iPod joystick control in the front watch pocket, allowing music-loving hipsters to control their iPods without ever removing them from their jeans. "In designing the jeans we considered both function and fashion -- the result is a uniquely functional, yet stylish, great fitting jean," says Robert Hanson, Levi's U.S. brand president. A company called Tunewear (www.tunewear.com) has been offering iPod fashion accessories online for two years now, including iPod covers in materials that range from studded silver to faux fur, and a t-shirt with an iPod-sized pocket and a built-in headphone cord winder on its front. Just about anyone can sew a pocket onto a t-shirt and call it iPod-enabled clothing, but some companies -- such as Idaho-based SeV, or ScotteVest (www.scottevest.com) -- truly go the extra mile. The company's clothing lines include jackets, pants, shorts and shirts, and even a sports coat, and all are built for maximum compatibility for all of today's gadgets, including the iPod. The company collaborated with Apple in 2003 to produce a nifty snowboarding jacket called the Burton Amp that held an iPod snugly inside an inner pocket on the wearer's chest, and provided a built-in remote control on the arm so that skiers and boarders wouldn't have to take off their gloves to change tunes while zooming down the slopes.
