Thomson improves Rip & Go Digital Music Studio with Sirius
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor
Thomson's Rip & Go Digital Music Studio has been expanded and improved. The new version of the audio system has a 5-CD changer, a USB port and an included MP3 player. The system can also record Sirius content to the MP3 player.
While we weren't that crazy about Thomson's RCA RS2052 Rip & Go Digital Music Studio, the product line just took a couple of interesting turns for the better.
Thomson expanded the line with several new models, including the top-of-the-line RCA RS2100 Bookshelf Audio System, a 160-watt stereo system with a 5-CD changer, a USB port, and an included MP3 player.
One major new feature is born of a newly announced partnership with Sirius Satellite Radio, resulting in the ability to record Sirius RCA RS2100 Bookshelf Audio System content directly to the MP3 player for time-shifting, though you'll still need to purchase a Sirius HomeConnect antenna for $49.99.
There's also a built-in terrestrial radio tuner, and you can record regular radio content to the player as well.
Another exciting improvement is an included USB wireless transmitter that can send audio signals from your PC to the RS2100.
While this is a nice feature for PC users, we're still confounded by this inclusion, which adds to the unit's price, when the intention of this product line seems to be to eliminate the PC from the mix.
Several other models will round out this product line; all of them let you rip CDs to select USB Mass Storage Class MP3 players without a computer, but other features vary: The 10-watt RS2046 ($69.99) is a single-CD unit and doesn't come with an MP3 player.
The RS2058 is similar to the RS2100 and comes with a 256MB MP3 player and an SD card slot, but it lacks the Sirius compatibility and is priced at $179.99.
We're guessing the RS2058 will be quite popular, given its similar pricing to the original RS2052, plus its doubled ripping speed and MP3 player capacity.
