Search the web for information about managing your daily stress levels

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

The Richmond Review provides a page of links and information regarding stress management and the health benefits of meditation.

The Internet has great tools for de-stressing. The Canadian Mental Health Association website, www.cmha.ca/ has fact sheets, de-stress tips, contact numbers and links. Here to Help, www.heretohelp.bc.ca/publications/factsheets/stress.shtml, is a B.C. website with facts and links to local resources. The Internet may have a lot of information, but it's important to consult a medical professional if you are experiencing extreme stress or stress related illnesses. WebMD, at www.webmd.com/content/chat_transcripts/2/111397.htm, has an article about Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and meditation practice. There are many sites on meditation, and although many religions have meditative aspects to them, the bulk of sites with meditation guidance are Buddhist. Two other websites, Wildmind, at www.wildmind.org, and Shambhalasun, at www.shambhalasun.com, also offer free information on meditation techniques. Despite the popular belief that people sit to meditate, there is also active meditation. Vancouver has its own labyrinth for walking meditation: the labyrinth at St. Paul's Anglican Church (www.stpaulsanglican.bc.ca/labyrinth/background.shtml). Read about labyrinths and their 2,000 year history at www.labyrinthonline.com/chartres.html. Another active form of meditation and a proven stress reducer is yoga. Yoga.com has a large collection of articles on yoga including an article on simple yoga poses for de-stressing at work. Yoga Journalat www.yogajournal.com is a great resource for detailed descriptions and photos of yoga poses. Reading a daily meditation and reflecting can help people reduce their stress. The web now has many sites with inspirational quotes. Jennifer Wile is with Richmond Public Library. This column and its links can be accessed from the web version of the Richmond Review, found on the Richmond Public Library home page at www.yourlibrary.ca. Free use Internet stations are available at all four branches of the library. Comments and suggestions for future columns may be e-mailed to [email protected].
