Budapest sees growth in alternative energy as more environmentally friendly projects take root there

Öko-Energia GmbH is set to invest $284.6 million in building Hungary's first wind farm and Europe's largest thermal-energy-powered supermarket opened in December in Vecsés, just southeast of Budapest, both signs that alternative energy is experiencing steady growth in Budapest.
AUSTRIAN company Öko-Energia GmbH is to invest Ft60 billion ($284.6 million) in establishing the first wind farm in Hungary, in the south Rábaköz region, 150km west of Budapest.
Forty-eight wind turbines will be built, at a price of between between Ft500-800m ($2.37-3.79m) and producing 2,000 kilowatts per hour.
Although the company has yet to sign any agreements with the landowners, according to Lajos Takács, the mayor of Dénesfa (one of the affected cities), this won't hinder the project.
"I am sure the company will be able to come to an agreement with the property owners," Takács said.
Meanwhile, Europe's biggest supermarket to operate using thermal energy, was opened in December in Vecsés, just southeast of Budapest.
The special equipment is able to produce warm water and can heat or cool the CBA store without losing any energy, all through collecting dissipated energy.
The thermo-pump technology collects the heat transmitted from visiting shoppers and turns it into hot water or heating.
András Léderer, president of Thermo Kft, told The Budapest Sun, "We have already built a smaller system in Dunaharaszti, which heats the building through an investment of Ft1 per hour and turns it then into a Ft5 profit."
