After studies have shown that Tai Chi increases circulation and stamina, the Arthritis Foundation is now sponsoring a Tai Chi class for seniors at the Royal Palm Beach gymnasium.

"This particular style is designed especially for people with arthritis," said Wagner, who has studied several styles of tai chi. While the sun style of tai chi has been around for about 100 years and involves more than 100 "postures," the style developed by Dr. Lam has only 12, Wagner said. The Arthritis Foundation sponsored the program after studies showed it improved circulation, stamina and offered pain relief, according to the foundation's training manual. Charity begins at home: The Palms West Chamber of Commerce office is filled with clothes, toys and other household stuff --- some signs of caring for neighbors just a short way off. The chamber joined the efforts of the Palm Beach County School District's west area office to help rebuild the lives of families in the Glades devastated by Hurricane Wilma. "They began by collecting school supplies, but then realized these families needed so much more," said Vivian Palmer, executive director of the chamber. Two caravans of donations already have gone west as part of the Glades Hurricane Relief Fund, but the chamber will continue collecting items through the end of the year, Palmer said. Both activities take place at Grassy Waters' offices on the south side of Northlake Boulevard, 8264 Northlake Blvd. Call Grassy Waters at (561) 627-8831.
