Researchers attempt to explore the relationship between cholesterol and high blood pressure

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

The Chicago Sun Times reports on the latest cholesterol research published in Hypertension, as researchers attempt to establish a line of causation between cholesterol and high blood pressure.

People with high cholesterol also have a higher risk of high blood pressure, the journal Hypertension reports in one of the first studies to demonstrate that one condition might cause the other. Not yet clear is whether high cholesterol or high blood pressure develop at the same time, or whether unhealthy cholesterol levels cause high blood pressure. People with high insulin or blood-sugar levels are twice as likely to develop pancreatic cancer as those with low levels, the Journal of the American Medical Association reports. High was defined as the range usually diagnosed as diabetic. Insulin levels rose years before cancer developed. University of Louisville researchers say they've developed a method to grow stem cells from bone marrow of adult mice and change them into brain, nerve, heart muscle and pancreatic cells -- which could lead to therapies to treat a number of human diseases while avoiding the controversial use of embryonic stem cells. The good news: Most people don't really gain much weight this time of year -- usually a pound or two, according to the National Institutes of Health. Now the bad: Even a small amount of holiday weight gain is likely to stay with you a lifetime.
