The Times of India reports an interview held with pediatrician Dr. PD Gopalakrishna, who discusses the development of asthma in children as young as 10 to 12 months, an alarming new trend being reported by asthma researchers.
With pollution levels reaching alarming levels, medical practitioners and hospitals are reporting that their asthma patients are getting ever younger, in fact as young as 10 months.
Previously, symptoms of respiratory diseases were found in children above the age of five years, deepening into full-blown asthma by the time they reached 10.
"But these days children as young as 10-12 months old are showing asthma symptoms," says paediatrician Dr P D Gopalakrishna.
Dr Gopalakrishna says 30-40 per cent of his patients are those with respiratory problems.
Of them, 70 per cent are asthma patients.
