Toyota has announced the debut of the all-new 2007 Camry Hybrid at a press conference during the 2006 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, and the automaker expects the vehicle to sell as well as its other hybrid, the Prius.

The Toyota Camry has been the best-selling car in America for seven of the past eight years, reaching 420,000 sales last year. In late 2006 Toyota will begin building the Hybrid Camry. Toyota already is a leader in hybrid sales with its Prius sedan, the success of which in the US has encouraged Toyota to rollout additional hybrid models. Unlike the Prius which is built in Japan, the hybrid Camry will be built within the US. Toyota plans to stage the world premier of the all-new 2007 Camry mid-size sedan and the Camry Hybrid at a press conference during the 2006 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The press conference, which will be held on Monday, January 9 at 1:20 PM in the Riverview Ballroom in COBO Center will be simulcast live to the Toyota display area at the show and a video clip of the conference will be available for viewing following the event on the Toyota.com website. The hybrid Camry will come equipped with a Synergy Drive that will deliver the highest level of Camry performance ever achieved in both fuel efficiency and low emissions and also achieve impressive power. Toyota plans to invest $10 million to adapt existing lines for hybrid production at its Kentucky plant. The Wall Street Journal had earlier reported that Toyota is also considering the possibility of producing the Prius hybrid or a hybrid version of the small Corolla sedan in North America. Toyota's other hybrids sold in the US market include Lexus RX 400h SUV and the hybrid Highlander SUV which went on sale earlier this year. As per reports the 2007 Lexus GS 450h hybrid sedan is targeted for sale in the spring of 2006.
