Desktop prices low while features increase

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

There are many desktop options, including the new iMac with digital living features like movies, music and photos, and the Dell 400 XPS with a 2.8 GHz processor, 512 MB of memory and an 80 GB hard drive for $969.

New this year to the iMac is a remote control and tighter integration with so-called digital living features -- movies, DVDs, music and photos. The new iMacs come with Apple's super high quality iSight camera built in for video messaging and the just-released Mighty Mouse that offers powerful new navigation abilities. Apple promises shipment in one or two days if bought online. The units are usually available at Apple stores at the Somerset Collection in Troy and Twelve Oaks in Novi as well as many CompUSA stores. Also Windows users who have heard about the immunity Macs seem to have from viruses and malicious programs and want to switch. This is a powerful computer that will be all you need for years. Caveats: Sometime next year, Apple will switch to processors powered by Intel. That means you will be able to use Windows and Mac applications on the same machine much easier than you can now. www.dell.comThe XPS line was introduced a couple of months ago as a step-up machine aimed at serious users and gamers. There are several versions available but my choice is the 400 model, starting at $969. And for that price, Dell includes a 19-inch flat panel monitor. This is a very powerful machine, boasting a 2.8 GHz processor, 512 MB of memory, an 80 GB hard drive, antivirus software and dual CD-RW and DVD-R drives. Dell offers XPS customers their own support line, sending out laminated ID cards with a special number that lets you bypass the standard Dell support personnel and get a dedicated Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) technician. Who is this for: Those wanting to upgrade older systems or those wanting to take advantage of new entertainment features offered through new media-centric computers.
