Researchers find high blood pressure often predicts cognitive problems later in life

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

At Maureen's Medical Moment, research on high blood pressure is reviewed, including recent findings that suggest men with high blood pressure are at greater risk of cognitive problems in old age.

Men with high blood pressure could be at a higher risk for developing cognitive problems as they age. In a recent study, older men with uncontrolled hypertension did significantly worse on verbal tests than those with normal blood pressure. Researchers say blood pressure typically increases with age, affecting about 60% of adults over the age of 60. They theorize that high blood pressure somehow exacerbates the normal effects of age on the frontal lobes. That makes it even more difficult for the brain to retrieve information, such as words, quickly.
