Computer users advised to be wary of opening e-Greeting cards

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

In previous years, Lover Spy and EmailPI (two commercially available spy software products) were caught posing as legitimate e-Greeting Cards. Be wary of opening e-Cards without checking to see who they are from.

As the holiday season draws closer, computer users should be very wary of opening Internet e-Greeting Cards without checking to be sure that they were sent from someone they know and trust. The reason to be cautious is that e-Greeting cards have been used to secretly install keylogger type spy software on unsuspecting consumer PCs in previous years. With ID theft still the fastest growing crime, computer security should be a major concern of everyone, and users must be careful about who's e-greeting cards they choose to open. Most online e-Greeting cards are safe and pose no threat, including those from Hallmark and other well known sources. There will, however, be some people who use the holiday greeting card frenzy to discreetly slip surveillance programs onto your computer. Once a spy e-Greeting Card is opened, the victim's computer in essence becomes a recording studio, able to capture and record everything done on that computer. Many such spy software products have the capability to relay that stolen information over the Internet to the perpetrator, without the knowledge or consent of the computer owner. "Once your system is infected, this type of covert surveillance spy software can capture incoming and outgoing emails, both sides of all chat conversations, banking and credit card information, screenshots of websites visited, literally everything you do on your computer." explained says Grey McKenzie, founder of SpyCop Security Systems. "It's unfortunate that we must worry about these privacy intrusions during an otherwise happy time of the year, but not everyone is in the holiday spirit." "If you have opened some cards already and aren't sure whether you're safe, run a SpyCop scan on your PC to check your system ".
