South Korean chip maker releases fast chip for games

South Korean chip Latest News about Chip maker Hynix Semiconductor Latest News about Hynix Semiconductor has announced the availability of its 512 MB GDDR4 DRAM for graphics applications.
The company claims that the GDDR4 is the industry's fastest and highest density graphics memory currently on the market, almost twice as fast as its Hynix predecessor, the GDDR3.
The DRAM will be used for PCs and game consoles to produce ultra-high speed moving pictures and graphic data.
The DRAM reportedly operates at 2.9 Gbps and can process approximately 11.6 gigabytes of data in one second.
Hynix will begin sampling its GDDR4 products to graphic chipset suppliers immediately and plans to commence mass production in early 2006.
Hynix hopes to introduce a GDDR4 with 14.4 GB speed during the second half of 2006.
