Sony's inclusion of parental controls earns accolades
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor
Sony recently received praise from the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) for its inclusion of parental controls in the PlayStation 3. Microsoft and Nintendo also offer such controls.
The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has lauded Sony's inclusion of parental controls in its forthcoming PlayStation 3, after Microsoft and Nintendo set the trend in their own latest offerings.
ESA President, Doug Lowenstein commended the Big 3 of gaming consoles for paying heed to the importance of parental control in their latest technology voluntarily.
After Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Revolution announced their inclusion of the ESRB rating-based option to limit to access to games, Sony is also joining the bandwagon with its PS3.
These next generation gaming consoles besides packing impressive technology to bring in the next level of realism are also trying to make it appropriate for every home.
The consoles with their snazzy graphics give an authentic feel to games by say allowing football jerseys to flap realistically or going into minutest aspects of the landscapes.
But most parents of the very young-and-impressionable are wary of purchasing consoles lest they become a bad influence with games that flaunt blood and gore all too realistically.
Given that Playstation 2 has the largest user base around the world, it is still a significant effort on the part of Sony that had already incorporated such a feature only for movies.
Though Sony is yet to go into the details of how the controls would actually work, but it is most likely to be on the basis of their content ratings.
The trend is that parents by selecting an option on the consoles "lock out" games and movies intended for more mature audiences.
With the average age of gamers being closer to 30, Lowenstein is not wrong in observing that th industry "naturally creates content appropriate for a range of audiences of all tastes, interests, and values" equating it to any other media like TV, films, music or books.
