FDA issues warning that Paxil may cause birth defects
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor
After reviewing two extensive studies, the FDA has issued a warning to pregnant women on the anti-depressant Paxil, claiming that the drug has been linked to an increased risk of birth defects.
The FDA is out with a new warning for pregnant women who take the anti-depressant Paxil.
The drug may cause an increased risk of birth defects in their babies.
Two studies show women who took Paxil during their first trimester were up to two times more likely to have children with a heart defect.
So the FDA is advising doctors and patients to discuss the risks to figure out if women should stop taking the drug.
The FDA has also asked the drug's maker to add a stronger warning about pregnancy complications to the label.
That maker, Glaxo Smith Kline, has sent a letter about these new findings to doctors around the country.
